Springfield, Missouri is known as the “Buckle of the Bible Belt.” It’s a reputation earned by seemingly having a church on nearly every corner.

But what about faith-based establishments open Monday through Saturday, where Christian college students can hang out?

Grant Studer, a junior at Missouri State University, sat down with The Scoop to talk about his top three favorite places in Springfield that are great options for college students looking to be uplifted and encouraged in their Christian faith.

3. Mardel Christian & Education

Located on South Glenstone, Mardel Christian & Education is a store teeming with discounted books, Bibles, supplies, and knick-knacks that can help strengthen a Christian’s faith, while also being aesthetically pleasing.

When talking about why Mardel stood out to him, Studer states, “They have an incredible variety of products; from a range of books and educational content to fun gifts, along with useful supplies such as notebooks and jewelry… Mardel is without a doubt one of the best stores in Springfield for anyone to find quality products that serve their faith-based or family-based needs at home or in school.”

2. Travellers House Coffee & Tea

Along with churches, Springfield, Missouri is also notorious for having a coffee shop for everyone. Travellers House is a two-location coffee shop offering unique drinks and a strong connection to the Christian faith.

After commenting about the calm atmosphere and delicious coffee and food, Studer dives deeper into the mission of Travellers House, saying, “A little-known thing about the shop is its mission to give back to the community by donating to and promoting several non-profit and ministry programs through its Coffee with a Cause program.”

1. The Potter’s House

The Potter’s House is a quaint and colorful house right across from campus, filled with people of all ages studying, having bible studies, and enjoying each other’s company.

Studer describes what The Potter’s House means to him, saying, “To many college students like myself, The Potter’s House is more than just a coffee shop/Christian non-profit. It is a space where people can go to feel safe and comfortable to be themselves within the rush of college life…What I love the most is that the atmosphere that The Potter’s House creates is one of care, understanding, and compassion for every person that walks in, which makes The Potter’s House one of the best shops that Springfield has to offer.”
