Kansas City Chiefs fans set record for loudest stadium in the world

The Kansas City Chiefs faced off against the New England Patriots on Monday Night Football on Sept. 29 in hopes of improving their record to 2-2.

But the game wasn’t the only battle being fought that night. Chiefs fans were looking to take back the record for the loudest stadium in the world from the Seattle Seahawks. Their fans had set the record at 136.6 decibels, overtaking the previous record set by Chiefs fans at 136.5.

Arrowhead Stadium got loud during the national anthem, when the Chiefs brought out a flag the size of the entire football field, and the fans ended the national anthem in their traditional way singing, “…and the land of the free, and the home of the CHIEFS!”

As the Chiefs began play, they immediately took the lead, scoring on their first drive of the game. With the Chiefs playing in such a big game, the fans had no problem cheering as loud as they possibly could.

“I think it’s a really awesome thing to be a part of a fandom that is so enthusiastic about their team,” said Chiefs fan Hannah Crawford.

Chiefs fans realized that they had set the record at 142.2, shattering the record of the Seattle Seahawks. With the people from the Guinness Book of World Records in attendance to document the record-setting attempt, it was official that the Kansas City Chiefs fans are the loudest in the world.

And, to top it off, the Chiefs defeated the Patriots 41-14.

Chiefs fans left the stadium happy as fireworks were shot off above the Arrowhead Stadium lights. “I was pretty surprised that we played that well against such an accomplished team,” Crawford said. “All I can say is that I was pleasantly surprised at the outcome.”

Later that night, ESPN sent out an NFL update, proclaiming to the whole world that Chiefs Kingdom had once again taken the record for the loudest stadium in the world — during primetime. It caused quite an uproar across social media.
